About Me
This blog exists for the Praise of His Glory. Its intention
is to share the stories of individuals who have provided inspiration to myself
and to many more. These seem to have discovered the secret to life, the key to
enduring health, happiness, and holiness.
When I was younger, my parents had a book called “The Way of
the Saints” that had rough pages on the sides and hundreds of stories in
between. In my little eyes, the “ancient” book was a true treasure. I spent
hours pouring through the pages, reading about these incredible people who did
incredible things. Easily inspired, I decided right then that I wanted to be
like them—I wanted to be a Saint!
Fast forward to sixth grade, my eyes were suddenly open to the status quo. I realized that being
part of the Blonde Lions (aka the superstar, teacher’s-pet-for-sure) club was
not so cool. I wanted to fit in, so I made my hair styles match the popular
girl’s; I bought the same Dr. Martins as everyone else even though they made my
twiggy little legs look even twiggier; I grew more quiet in class so that it
wouldn’t seem like I knew all the answers anymore. I drifted from that simple,
authentic childhood self to morph into a version (or versions) of myself that
was more socially acceptable.
Over the years, I have grown in self-awareness and self-acceptance.
But, interestingly enough (and as Providence would have it), I realized
recently I simply don’t grow on my own; I have been consistently counseled
along the way. I do acknowledge that the true Counselor has been the Lord, who
does indeed speak to me and to each of you. However, rarely does He do so through
a loud, booming voice. Instead, I hear His encouragements daily: in the Scriptures, in the books and articles I
read, and in the homily on Sunday. I also
hear Him in a baby’s laugh, the random word of reassurance from a friend, the
bear hug from a husband when I get home. These little encounters are like
little sparks that gently come together to bring light to life.
I want to share with you a collection of stories. Some will
be about Saints, as they still bring a lot of inspiration and example of a life
well lived. Some will be of great historical figures and their contributions to
our world. Many will be about the incredible people that have helped me get to
where I am today.
This is my thank-you-note to them—my ode of gratitude--to
the great role models that have knowingly
or unknowingly shared with me their light, which ultimately was the “True Light
which enlightens everyone” (John 1) that is still
shining into the world.
